LEO FOUNDATION PROGRAMS / PARTNERS:
Youth Mentor Program
Created in partnership with OMNI Youth Services, a social services agency affiliated with the United Way, the Youth Advocate Program matches volunteer adult mentors with a youth in need of a friend and positive role model for vocational and social skill development, and hobby sharing.
Life Skills Training
Specialists work with young people to help build the skills they will need to deal with the obstacles ahead. The LEO Foundation funds a variety of OMNI Youth Services programs in this area, including:
R.E.A.L.I.T.Y THEATRE (Real Encounters About Living Involving Today's Youth) - a teen ensemble performance group using the power of creative drama to speak directly to youth - positive peer-to-peer communication
GAIN (Gang Awareness Initiative Network) - for adolescents who show signs of gang-related behaviors and their families, to assist them in making major life changes
JOURNEY - Combines therapeutic and preventative intervention with outdoor adventure. During hiking, climbing and canoeing expeditions, professionals work with young people on issues ranging from low self-esteem to chronic juvenile delinquency.
Leadership Development
These OMNI Youth Services programs will allow adolescents to further develop and encourage leadership skills and to develop, grow and/or contribute to the general society:
LEO Adventure Club - Activity based group that exposes adolescents to a variety of settings that promote self-awareness, as well as an understanding of society and the world around them.
Youth Advisory Group - Junior high and high school-aged students serve as a planning and evaluating committee for LEO-funded programs
Community Priority - Youth volunteers participate in community service projects, events and other "service-to-others" activities
Speakers Bureau - Adolescents work on improving their speaking skills
Vocational Skills Development
These programs provide youth with vocational skills targeted to meet current job demands:
"iCAN" - Computer training lab, sponsored, in part, by Apple Computers
